Sonakshi Sinha sings Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu's reprised version for Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi
Sonakshi Sinha goes behind the mic to reimagine 1958 classic Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu with singer-actor Jassie Gill for her next - Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi
After lending her voice to songs in Akira (2016) and Noor (2017), Sonakshi Sinha has put her vocal chords to the test again. However, the stakes may be significantly higher this time, as the actor has stepped into legendary singer Geeta Dutt's shoes. mid-day has learnt that Sinha has sung the reprised version of Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu (Howrah Bridge, 1958) for her upcoming film, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi.
Reimagined by music composer Sohail Sen, the song — that was filmed on Sinha and co-star Jassie Gill in China last month — has been given a distinct Punjabi feel to it, in keeping with the setting of the romantic comedy that sees her character Harpreet ending up in China due to a case of mistaken identity. It was apparently director Mudassar Aziz's brainwave to have his leads croon the Helen classic.

No stranger to the recording studio, Sinha admits that she gave a nod to the remix instantly, without worrying about the comparisons that will inevitably follow. "There is no better song than Chin Chin Chu, served with a Punjabi tadka, to rightfully capture the essence of our film. It's a double treat for me, as I am not only featuring in the song but also singing it," she says.
Gill, who is making his Bollywood debut with the film, considers himself "blessed to be part of the iconic song". "On the set, Sonakshi and I used to bond over Punjabi music. At the time, I had no clue that I would be getting an opportunity to sing with her."
