In a ghastly crime, a man allegedly murdered 14 members of his family, including seven children, and committed suicide early morning on Sunday in Thane, police said.

All 15 members (including the accused) from the same family resided at Vadavli village on Kasarvadavli at Ghodbunder road in Thane.

According to the police, the suspect Mohammed Hasnil Anwar Warekar 35, is a charatered accountant by profession. "The incident is believed to have occured after 1 am on Sunday, where the accused had first poisioned the food of the 14 family members and later slashed their respective throats with a sharp Knife. The police who reached the spot after the incident, suspected Hasnil's role in the case as they found him hanging in the flat with the sharp weapon in his hand," said a senior police officer.

"The bodies included Hasnil, his father Anwar Ismail Warekar 60, his mother, wife, three sisters including an unmarried one and one relative along with seven children," added the officer.

One lady member of the family, Subiha Bharmar 21, who survived the brutal assault, has suffered injurues and is currently undergoing treatment at the Titan Hospital. "Among the seven kids that were killed includes a 4-month-old child of Subiha and a 6-month-old child of Hasnil," added the officer. The police are awaiting for Subiha to get well, so that her statement will reveal the fact behind the brutally killings.

After the incident Parambir Singh, Commissioner of Police visited the spot and ascertain that the reason for the murders. "The registration procedure is currently underway at Kasarwadavli police station. They suspect it to be a family dispute over property, for which investigation is on," added the officer.
