England bowlers had plenty of plans to counter Chris Gayle at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. But the big-hitting West Indian destroyed every plot that the England bowlers planned to apply the brakes to his run spree.

Gayle broke his own T20I record of scoring a century in just 47 balls as West Indies romped to a six-wicket win over England in the ICC World T20 match.

"There were number of plans to stop him (Gayle). Obviously, we bowled short to him for a while (that) he countered. He is a very difficult batsman to bowl to. He plays a couple of dot balls but also has the ability to take any of our bowlers down, just in one over. His skill level was quite up there. Our plans were very good and the execution of them was alright. But he is a world class player, he played really well tonight," England skipper Eoin Morgan said at the post-match press conference on Wednesday.

"I don't think our bowling was outstanding. Yes, he (Gayle) certainly did what he does. He was outstanding in conditions that probably favoured the bat a lot more than the ball. We could have been better with the way we executed our skills I think. But when he got in, he didn't give us any chances and took on our bowlers," added Morgan.
