Gold prices edged lower on Friday as expectations of an interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve in December weakened following the delayed release of the US jobs report. A firmer dollar and subdued global sentiment further contributed to the downward trend in precious metal rates across major domestic and international markets.
In Mumbai, 24-carat gold was quoted at Rs 1,24,250 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,13,890 per 10 grams. These rates exclude GST and making charges. Silver, meanwhile, traded at Rs 1,64,900 per kilogram in the spot market.
In the national capital, gold prices dipped by Rs 600 to Rs 1,26,700 per 10 grams, weighed down by weak global cues and a stronger US dollar, according to market participants. Gold of 99.5 per cent purity also dropped by Rs 600 to Rs 1,126,100 per 10 grams (inclusive of taxes). Silver witnessed a sharper decline, falling Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,58,000 per kilogram in Delhi.
According to the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 999 purity physical gold stood at Rs 1,22,561 per 10 grams in its 6:30 pm session, marking a 0.26 per cent decrease from Thursday’s 12:30 pm rate of Rs 1,22,881. Domestic gold prices had recently hit a peak of Rs 1,26,554 per 10 grams of 999 purity on November 13, 2025.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures opened 0.28 per cent lower at Rs 1,22,373 per 10 grams, compared to the previous close of Rs 1,22,727. Silver futures also traded weak, opening 0.26 per cent down at Rs 1,53,750 per kilogram. By 9:10 am, MCX gold was down Rs 285, or 0.23 per cent, at Rs 1,22,442 per 10 grams, while silver slipped 1.11 per cent to Rs 1,52,433 per kilogram.
Gold prices were largely uniform across major cities, with 22-carat gold priced at Rs 1,13,890 per 10 grams and 24-carat gold at Rs 1,24,250 per 10 grams in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Jaipur and Ahmedabad saw slightly higher prices, with 24-carat gold at Rs 1,24,400 and Rs 1,24,300, respectively.
In the international market, spot gold slid 0.40 per cent, or USD 16.48, to USD 4,061.53 per ounce. Spot silver was also under pressure, falling 1.22 per cent to USD 50.73 per ounce. The US dollar index inched up 0.03 per cent to 100.26, adding further pressure on precious metals denominated in the greenback.
