Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty closed slightly higher on Tuesday during the special one-hour Muhurat trading session, marking a positive start to Samvat Year 2082, reported the PTI.
The gains were supported by strong global market trends.
The BSE Sensex rose 62.97 points, or 0.07 per cent, to finish at 84,426.34.
During the session, it touched an intraday high of 84,665.44 and a low of 84,286.40. The NSE Nifty gained 25.45 points, or 0.10 per cent, to settle at 25,868.60.
Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 24 ended with gains, 25 declined, and one remained unchanged.

In the previous Samvat 2081, which ended on Monday, the Sensex surged 4,974.31 points (6.26 per cent) and the Nifty gained 1,637.8 points (6.76 per cent).
Among the top Sensex gainers were Bajaj Finserv (+1.42 per cent), Axis Bank (+0.80 per cent), Infosys (+0.72 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (+0.60 per cent), Tata Motors (+0.55 per cent), Bajaj Finance (+0.53 per cent) and Tata Steel (+0.52 per cent).
Major losers included Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, HCL Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, Trent Ltd, and TCS.
Broader markets also saw gains with BSE MidCap rising 0.23 per cent (106.95 points) to 46,787.20 and BSE SmallCap gained 0.91 per cent (486.81 points) to 53,842.85.
Among sectoral indices, Industrials, Telecommunication, Commodities, Capital Goods, Services, and Metals were top performers. Bankex and Realty closed slightly lower.
Global markets remained upbeat with Shanghai Composite rising 1.36 per cent, Hang Seng gained 0.77 per cent, Kospi added 0.24 per cent and Nikkei 225 in Japan rose 0.15 per cent.
European stocks were also trading in the green during early sessions.
On Monday, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 790.45 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) made purchases worth Rs 2,485.46 crore.
Meanwhile, Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty rose in the opening session of special Muhurat trading on Tuesday, driven by buying in banking and IT shares amid a positive trend in global markets.
