Student of the year
A Bollywood actor, who has reportedly played supporting roles in movies including Karan Johar's 2012 film Student Of The Year, was recently caught at the Chennai airport with 3.5 kgs of cocaine. The actor was found carrying drugs worth Rs. 35 crore in his luggage. According to reports, he was travelling from Singapore and had hidden the drugs in the false bottom of his luggage.
Student of the Year actor held with cocaine
According to a report in The Times of India, a joint team from Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) allegedly stopped him at the airport. The actor's checked-in luggage was examined by the officials. In the false bottom of his trolley, the officials discovered plastic pouches that had a white powdery substance in them. During a drug test, it was confirmed that the substance was cocaine.
During the investigation, the actor revealed that he flew from Cambodia to Chennai via Singapore. Sources told TOI that the actor claimed that he was handed the trolley bag in Cambodia by strangers, who told him to hand the bag over to a receiver at Chennai airport.
However, the officials believe that he was going to take the cocaine to Mumbai or Delhi after landing in Chennai. Notably, the DRI is currently tracking the drug network that engaged him, while the customs continue to investigate his travel history to verify if he had smuggled drugs in the past.
So far, the identity of the actor has not been known or revealed. For the unversed, Student of the Year starred Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, and Sidharth Malhotra in the lead roles. Directed by Karan Johar, it also featured many other actors in supporting and small roles.
Not the first
Notably, this isn't the first time such an incident has unfolded at the Chennai airport. This is the second time that the DRI has seized cocaine at Chennai airport in the past two weeks. Earlier, a Kenyan national was arrested with 2kg of cocaine on September 16 when he arrived from Ethiopia. Similarly, on September 1, Chennai Customs also seized 5.6kg of cocaine concealed inside Ferrero Rocher chocolate cans. Two passengers who arrived from Ethiopia were arrested.
