Five years ago, the death of Sushant Singh Rajput altered the lives of Rhea Chakraborty and her family forever. The actress, who was then dating Rajput, was accused of abetment to suicide. While Rhea has been acquitted of all charges, she recently opened up about the lasting impact the case had on her and her brother, Showik Chakraborty. The siblings also spent some time in jail in connection with the case.
Rhea Chakraborty on Sushant Singh Rajput case and its impact
In 2020, Rhea and Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drug-related investigation linked to Sushant’s death. Talking about that phase to CNBC TV18 and how it left a lasting impact on their lives, Rhea said,
“When we went through the tragedy that we went through, we both lost our careers. I stopped getting any acting work, and Showik, who had scored 96 percentile in CAT and secured admission into a prestigious university, was arrested before he could begin. By the time he came out, he had lost the first trimester—and with it, his MBA plans and future planning.”
She further said that for Showik, getting a job in the corporate space became next to impossible because of the media attention on them.
“Getting a job for Showik afterwards in any corporate setup was very difficult. No one wanted to hire someone who had so much media scandal around them. For a while, we weren’t sure where our lives were going. Like, what’s next? We had our healing processes.”
That is how the sibling duo started their own brand, Chapter 2 Drip—a clothing line aimed at giving the voiceless a voice and making them feel seen.
About Rhea and Showik's Chapter 2
Chapter 2 Drip — a clothing brand founded by Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother — opened its first store in Mumbai this week. The start-up was founded as an online store in 2024 and valued at Rs 38 crore to Rs 40 crore as of May 2025 following seed funding from retail giants Kishore and Ashni Biyani. The streetwear clothing brand went ‘offline’ this week with a store in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai.
Talking about how the idea for the brand came up, Rhea said, “When I was arrested, my t-shirt read: ‘Roses are red, violets are blue, let’s smash the patriarchy, me and you.’ It spoke for me when I couldn’t". She wants their brand's t-shirt to be a voice for the common people.
