Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has been in the news for several reasons. While a section of the audience, critics, and filmmakers are praising its cinematic brilliance, others are pointing out the politics shown in the film. The film even offended the Baloch community after a dialogue by Sanjay Dutt portrayed them in a negative light. The Gujarat High Court, on January 9, 2026, disposed of the petition.

Gujarat HC on Baloch dialogue petition

The controversial dialogue is delivered by Sanjay Dutt, who portrays SP Chaudhary Aslam in Dhurandhar. The dialogue goes, “Magarmachh pe bharosa kar sakte hai, par Baloch pe nahi” (You can trust a crocodile, but not a Baloch). It was flagged by members of the Baloch community as hate speech that unfairly stereotypes and targets them. They argued that the film’s dialogue depicted Baloch people as untrustworthy, which they claimed was offensive and hurt their community’s dignity.

The petitioners sought directions from the Gujarat High Court to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film’s producers to remove or permanently mute the objectionable content from all versions and platforms. In the latest hearing, the filmmakers, represented in court, stated that the objectionable words had already been muted in the movie’s final cut. To note, the makers have muted two words and changed a dialogue in the film, as per the directives received from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India. After this, the film was re-released on January 1.

About Dhurandhar

The film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, and Arjun Rampal in prominent roles. The film has been produced by Dhar and his brother Lokesh Dhar through their banner B62 Studios, alongside Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. Part 2 of the film is set to arrive in March 2026. It will have a box office clash with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups and Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit.

Talking about its box office collection, the film has raked in over Rs 1,000 crores worldwide. Domestically, it earned over Rs 830 crores and crushed Pushpa 2 to become the highest-grossing Hindi film in Indian cinema.
