Rumours buzzing in the industry as to whether Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai is based on the life of gangster Haji Mastan have now got the civil court to intervene. In a reply to a petition filed by Haji's adopted son Sunder Shekhar stating that his father is known for his good works and should not be branded a mobster, the civil court ruled on Tuesday that the producer and director of Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai have to include a disclaimer in the beginning of the film clarifying that the film is not based on Haji's life.

Sunder argued that his father had founded the Bharatiya Minorities Suraksha Mahasangh, which till today, helps the poor people. Counsel for the defence, from the side of Balaji Telefilms, the producers, argued that Haji's name is not mentioned in the film even once. Counsel for Milan Luthria, the film's director, argued that if indeed Haji was such a good man, then the film cannot be based on him, as the protagonist is an underworld don.
