Actor Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan is the next star kid to make his Bollywood debut. The 21-year-old will play the lead in an action-romance produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, which kicks off next year.

Ahan was recommended to Sajid by Suniel’s good friend Salman Khan, who also launched his daughter Athiya in Hero opposite Sooraj Pancholi last year. “Salman has been an influence on Ahan. As a kid, my son was obsessed with him. He would dance on O O Jane Jana (Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya) and roam the house shirtless.” says Suniel. Recollecting another incident from Ahan’s childhood, he adds, “One day, he threw a fit that he wanted to meet Salman. I called Salman, who was about to catch a flight, but waited at the airport to meet Ahan. When he called me recently to discuss Ahan’s debut, I knew my son was in safe hands.”

Suniel says Ahan had received a couple of offers from prominent production houses but he decided to go ahead with Sajid owing to their 25-year-old relationship. “I know that Sajid is going to hold my son’s hand till the end. The Friday when your film releases is like a monster, it makes or breaks an actor. The minute your first film doesn’t work, the three-film deal automatically becomes a one-film deal, and you don’t stand a second chance. But Sajid, one of the biggest independent
producers here will treat my kid as his.”

The father admits he is experiencing a mixed bag of feelings. “I am nervous but also very excited about this.”
