Lara Dutta and family
Actor and former Miss Universe Lara Dutta has safely returned to India with her daughter Saira Bhupathi after being stranded in Dubai during rising tensions in the Middle East. The actor recently opened up about the frightening experience and the risky journey she undertook to return home.
Lara Dutta shares her Dubai ordeal
Lara had earlier shared a video from Dubai explaining that she and her daughter were stuck there as the situation in the region escalated. She admitted that the atmosphere had become tense, with loud explosions and missile interceptions being heard in the distance. Despite staying in a secure villa, the uncertainty of the situation made her anxious, especially because she was responsible for her daughter’s safety.
Speaking about the ordeal after reaching India, Lara said she usually avoids sharing such personal experiences publicly but felt compelled to talk about it because of how serious the situation had become. She explained that returning home was not easy and required making a difficult decision when regular travel options were disrupted.
“We lived just about 10 kilometres away from the Jebel Ali Port, which was being bombed every day,” she said while recalling the tense situation. “So we decided to take a chance because I wanted to be with my husband and family.”
On how much it has affected them mentally
Since flights from Dubai were affected, Lara and her daughter had to drive nearly two hours to another port in Fujairah in order to begin their journey back home. The actor admitted that the trip felt extremely uncertain and frightening.
“Just a day earlier, Fujairah port and the oil refinery had been bombed. It was scary,” she said. Lara even tried to lighten the situation with a joke while speaking to her co star Akshay Kumar. “I was joking with him that I felt like I was part of Airlift 2.”
The actor also spoke about how concerned she was for her daughter throughout the experience. She revealed that they could hear bombs even near the airport at times, which made the journey even more nerve racking. Despite the fear, Lara said they kept praying that they would be able to return home safely.
Now back in India, Lara said the experience was deeply unsettling but also reminded her how important family is during uncertain times. For both her and her daughter, reaching home safely has brought immense relief after days of tension and worry.
