Even as the release of The Kerala Story 2 has been stayed by the Kerala High Court, tickets for the film continue to appear available on online booking platforms, leaving audiences confused about its actual release status.

High Court passes an interim stay order

The High Court recently granted a 15 day interim stay on the film’s release, observing that there appeared to be a non application of mind by the Central Board of Film Certification while granting it a U A certificate. The bench noted that certification guidelines, particularly those concerning communal harmony and public order, may not have been adequately considered. The stay came in response to petitions challenging the film’s clearance and raising concerns about its content.

However, despite the court’s order, major ticketing platforms have continued to list shows for the film in several cities. Viewers browsing for weekend releases were surprised to find screenings of The Kerala Story 2 still open for booking. Screenshots of available seats began circulating online, prompting many to question how ticket sales could proceed when the film’s release had been legally halted.

Social media platforms were flooded with reactions from puzzled users asking whether cinemas had not yet updated their listings or if the stay order applied only in specific regions. Some expressed frustration at the lack of clarity, saying audiences deserve transparent communication regarding the film’s release.

All about the controversy

So far, the makers of The Kerala Story 2 have not issued an official statement clarifying the situation or addressing why ticket sales remain active online. The legal proceedings are expected to continue, with further hearings scheduled to determine the next course of action.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and featuring actors such as Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha, the film has faced scrutiny since its announcement. Critics have argued that its narrative could potentially create social tensions, which led to the legal challenges in the first place.

For now, the situation remains uncertain. While ticket bookings are still visible online, whether the film will actually be screened in theatres as planned remains unclear, leaving moviegoers waiting for official confirmation.
