This animated adaptation of the hugely popular video game series is not of Dreamworks or even Disney standard. It's just a fairly constipated attempt to recreate the video game success on cinema. The narrative follows three avian criminals sentenced to anger management reform, as they put their negative energy to good use, fighting back against a hostile takeover by a swarm of cunningly ingratiating green-backed swines.

Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), and Bomb (Danny McBride) are all outcasts on Bird Island, a community of flightless fowl who pride themselves on staying positive and cheerful at all times. The trio doesn't exactly hit it off after meeting at an anger-management class. They are the only birds suspicious of a group of green pigs who arrive on their island on some mysterious pretext. When the swine's nefarious plans are revealed, only Red and his pals have what it takes to save the day.

The animation here is just about OK. It's not comely and though blindingly colourful, lacks a certain class that we've come to expect from the major Hollywood studios. There's not much to laugh at as the narrative goes a little haywire in its redemptive spiral. The action sequences, while quite bombastic doesn't quite make it stick. There's nothing inventive or creative in terms of the writing either. The entire run looks contrived and derivative. Even the three-year-olds will find it difficult to cotton on to this miserable escapade.
