Los Angeles: Alejandro G. Inarritu walked away with his first ever Oscar award for his direction in 'Birdman'.

The movie narrates the tale of Riggan Thomson, best known to the public as Birdman - the superhero he once played in a series of films. He hopes to re-establish himself as a serious actor by mounting his own dramatic production on Broadway.
With self-doubt hindering the project, Thomson also finds himself threatened by the presence of a high-profile, egotistical movie star in his cast. Inarritu was nominated for the award alongside Richard Linklater ('Boyhood'), Bennett Miller ('Foxcatcher'), Wes Anderson ('The Grand Budapest Hotel') and Morten Tyldum ('The Imitation Game').
