Amid the ongoing full-fledged promotions of Wicked: For Good, Ariana Grande has revealed that she has tested positive for COVID-19. This comes just when the press tour for Wicked: For Good reaches its final stretch. As a result, Grande is likely to miss a few upcoming events.
Ariana Grande diagnosed with Covid-19
The 32-year-old singer and actor recently took to Instagram to share the update on Thursday. She posted a photo from her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 18, with the caption, “moments before Covid.”
Soon after her announcement, Variety reported that Grande had withdrawn from her scheduled appearance on the upcoming The Kelly Clarkson Show. Besides, she will also miss the upcoming Q&A panels for Wicked: For Good. Meanwhile, her co-star Cynthia Erivo will attend the show as planned.
Unfortunately, the news comes just days after both Grande and Erivo missed nearly all press interviews at the film’s New York City premiere on November 17. Universal Pictures had stated that Erivo had lost her voice and was “not feeling well” ahead of the event. Nevertheless, the pair walked the red carpet and briefly appeared on a livestream at the premiere. During the livestream, Grande explained she was “not letting [Erivo] speak,” while Erivo managed a short comment through a hoarse voice.
Wicked: For Good Promotions
Grande’s diagnosis adds to the bumpy promotional tour for the sequel to 2024’s Wicked. Interestingly, this is not the first time COVID-19 has hampered the promotions for the franchise. Back in 2024, during the press run for the original Wicked film, both Grande and Erivo revealed they had separately contracted COVID-19 just ahead of shooting crucial scenes. Grande had also previously told The New York Times that they filmed “some of the most important works of the whole movie” while recovering from the viral disease.
Talking of her latest promotions, Ariana missed the Sao Paulo premiere on November 4 due to a “safety issue” with her plane. Later at the Singapore premiere on November 13, a man identified as 26-year-old Australian Johnson Wen rushed at her on the red carpet and grabbed her as she walked with the cast. Also known as the notorious 'Pyjama Man, he later pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance and was sentenced to nine days in prison.
