American comedian and television personality David Letterman is upset about the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's The Late Show and is making fun of the network that made the decision.
David Letterman is giving clues regarding the cancellation even though he hasn't commented on it directly yet. He is expressing his opinions through his previous remarks on CBS following the network's cancellation of The Late Show.
David took a dig at the show
David Letterman, 78, posted a video montage of himself mocking CBS on YouTube on July 21. Letterman hosted The Late Show for more than 20 years, from 1993 to 2015. According to the description of the film, all of the clips are from episodes of David Letterman's The Late Show, including those from 1994, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
The caption reads, "You can't spell CBS without BS."
David Letterman joked in a 2003 jab that CBS had failed to disclose the length of time The Late Show had been shown. "They don't care and they don't know... To avoid any trouble, I will call the CBS switchboard to find out how long we have been broadcasting. "Perhaps I'm exaggerating," he said.
Four days after CBS revealed that The Late Show will be discontinued for budgetary reasons, the Letterman video was released.
After ten seasons, Stephen Colbert's late-night show is ending, it was announced last week. According to the NY Post, CBS made the announcement in a statement on July 17 that it would be discontinuing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert following the upcoming television season. It was "purely a financial decision," according to the network.
Stephen's opening statement on the show
In a statement, CBS executives said, "We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show' franchise in May of 2026." The pantheon of greats that adorned late-night television will honor him and the broadcast. After David Letterman left the show in September 2015, Stephen Colbert took over.
"Before we start the show, I want you to know something that I found out just last night. Our final season will be next year. Stephen stated in his opening monologue last week that the Late Show will be discontinued by the network in May.
"Not only is our show coming to an end, but The Late Show on CBS is also coming to an end," he continued. No one is going to replace me. All of this is simply disappearing. Additionally, I would like to mention that the people at CBS have been excellent collaborators.
