Los Angeles: Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds' son Todd Fisher says his mother, who died just a day after Carrie's death, was under a lot of stress and wanted to be with her daughter.
Carrie passed away on Tuesday, four days after a mid-flight heart attack. Reynolds, 84, died just a day after Carrie's demise.
Todd says she was devastated by the death of her only daughter.
"She went to be with Carrie. In fact, those were the last words that she spoke this morning. More specifically, she said that she really, she was under a lot of stress.
"She held it together beautifully, obviously, for the last couple of days but she was under a lot of emotion and stress from the loss (of Carrie) and it's pretty much what triggered this event," Todd said.
Reynolds was hospitalised Wednesday afternoon after suffering a stroke at Todd's Beverly Hills home. She was ultimately transported to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.
Todd said it is extremely tough for Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd to handle back-to-back tragedies.
"Carrie's daughter is 24 years old. To have to lose the girls, it's just horrible. She's got their genes but you can't even imagine. I can't imagine being 24 and having to do this and I'm 59," he said.
Carrie's step sister Joely Fisher also took to social media to share an emotional message after Reynold's demise.
"Some of the magic people have left the tribe...For the moment I am inconsolable," Joely wrote.
