The upcoming Harry Potter TV series has fans buzzing over the casting of Voldemort. While speculation swirled around actors like Cillian Murphy and Matt Smith, HBO kept the actor’s identity secret
Voldemort
The Harry Potter TV series has kept the fans intrigued over the casting of Voldemort. According to media reports, HBO has locked in an actor to play the villainous character, but the makers will not reveal the identity ahead of time.
While the show based on J.K. Rowling’s novels is highly anticipated, fans wonder if Cillian Murphy or Matt Smith will play the role of the main antagonist.
As speculation about the person who would play Voldemort persists, it is apparent that Ralph Fiennes, who played the figure in the Harry Potter films, will not return for the TV series.
Who will play Voldemort?
According to media sources, the makers' deliberate tactic in keeping the star playing Voldemort hidden is the reason for the secrecy. The decision recalls the character's 'He Who Must Not Be Named' slogan, heightening the sense of secrecy and horror surrounding Voldemort's identity.
Meanwhile, rumours circulating on the internet have revealed two people who could be an excellent fit for the position. Fans believe Matt Smith or Cillian Murphy could deliver a credible performance as the character.
Even Fiennes agreed that the Oscar-winning star was the better choice. According to previous reports, Murphy was cast as Professor Quirrell.
Though no confirmation was provided by Warner Bros. Studios, CEO Channing Dungey stated, "We're still weighing a couple of different options there, so we're not quite ready yet." That is a critical role to get correctly."
Later, Luke Thallon was confirmed to have taken on the iconic character.
All about the series
The Harry Potter TV series was first announced in 2023, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of the wizard narrative on television. Earlier this month, HBO unveiled the first images of Harry Potter and Rubeus Hagrid, played by Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost.
The plot of the show will be based on the novels of famed author J.K. Rowling. Each of the seven books will be adapted as a different season.
The show will premiere on television screens in 2027.
