Tobey Maguire was the first actor to play Spider-Man in the film series that began in 2002. After three movies as the web-slinger, he returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home for a special cameo alongside the other two Spider-Men — Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. Now, there’s growing buzz that Maguire might once again don the Spidey suit for a film dedicated entirely to him.
Will Spider-Man 4 happen with Tobey Maguire?
The speculation around Tobey’s potential return with a fourth installment in the franchise began when The Batman 2 co-writer Mattson Tomlin expressed interest in taking the story forward. It all started in July, when a fan asked Tomlin on X (formerly Twitter), “If asked to write a screenplay, would you have any interest or vision for your take on Spider-Man? If so, what do you find interesting about the character?”
Responding to the question, Tomlin said he would love to explore Maguire’s Spider-Man balancing life as a family man. “Honestly, right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards, given the last eight films,” he wrote.
Now, months later, a fan asked Tomlin if there had been any movement on Spider-Man 4. To this, the writer replied, “Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me — but I haven’t gotten a ‘no’ yet!”

The re-release is designed as a celebration for both longtime fans and a new generation discovering the hero’s journey. Each film will showcase Peter Parker’s evolution from an ordinary teenager to the ultimate friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
Tom Holland’s appearances as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will hit theatres on November 28, tracing his journey from Homecoming to his multiverse adventures. Finally, beginning December 5, fans can relive the critically acclaimed animated Spider-Verse films, which introduced a bold and inventive take on the character.
