Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent and Michelle Dockery of The Downtown Abbey fame will be seen together for the first time in Ritesh Batra's The Sense Of An Ending. Jim plays father to Michelle, whose character is that of a single mother.
For a scene in the film, Ritesh was supposed to shoot them attending an NCT (National Childbirth Trust) class, where expectant couples go to learn about pregnancy and parenthood. But in case of Susie (Michelle), her father Tony (Jim) accompanies her. Ritesh shot the scene at a real NCT class in London.

Talking about shooting the awkward scene, Dockery says, "The NCT class was really funny to film. It was awkward as I had just got to know Jim. I was bending over a big bouncy ball and he sat behind me massaging my hips. It was so weird and appropriately awkward for the scene because of course, she is with her father and everyone else in the class were real couples."
Agrees Broadbent, "Certainly, the intimacy that was required between a father and daughter seemed quite real in its awkwardness, I suppose."
