Mindy Kaling, who welcomed a daughter named Katherine Swati Kaling on December 15, has paid tribute to her late mother by naming her first child after her. This is not the first time the 38-year-old honoured her mother Dr. Swati Chokalingam, who died of pancreatic cancer in January 2012. Kaling's hit show 'The Mindy Project' was inspired in part by her mother's years as an OBG/YN.
