Variety verified the news of the divorce on Monday night, with an unnamed insider telling the New York Post, “Sometimes relationships just run their course.” The 58-year-old Australian actor and the 57-year-old country music singer have been separated since June, according to entertainment website TMZ.
In June, Kidman shared a snapshot of herself with Urban on Instagram to honour their wedding anniversary.
Urban is believed to have moved out of the couple's Nashville home, and Kidman is reportedly anxious to save the relationship. "She didn't want this," said an unnamed source to People magazine. "She has been fighting to save the marriage."
Nicole and Keith's relationship
Kidman and Urban, who both grew up in Australia, have had ups and downs in their nearly two-decade relationship.
They had highs when both performers won and were nominated for big awards in their respective businesses. They've always supported and cheered each other on, frequently appearing together at award presentations and Hollywood premieres.
And lows: months after their wedding, Urban entered rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. Both he and Kidman have stated that their struggles with addiction strengthened their love.
Kidman and a few of his close friends organised an intervention, which Urban claims altered his life.
"Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together," he stated during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2010.
"I look back now and realise Nic has taught me so much and brought so much into my life and opened my eyes in so many ways," according to him. "[This is] the best place I've ever been."
The two were photographed together in June at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee.
About their family
The couple has two children together: Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14). Kidman and Urban got married in Sydney in June 2006, nearly a year after meeting at the annual G'Day USA dinner in January 2005. Kidman's last marriage to Tom Cruise lasted from 1990 to 2001. She and Cruise have two children: Bella (32), and Connor (30).
