Rapper Eminem has filed a lawsuit against tech giant Meta for copyright infringement. The rapper, through his publishing company Eight Mile Style, filed the suit against Meta Platforms — which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — accusing the company of unauthorized use of his music catalog and seeking over $109 million in damages. According to E! News, the lawsuit was filed in court on May 30.
Eminem sues Meta for copyright
As per court documents, Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) alleged that Meta violated the copyrights of 243 songs from his catalog through the "unauthorized storage, reproduction, and exploitation” of the tracks on its platforms. The suit also claimed that Meta’s apps allow and encourage users to steal his music and use it in video content on their platforms without proper attribution or license.
Due to these alleged violations, Eminem is seeking monetary compensation for “the diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants’ theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.” He has requested $150,000 for each infringed song, amounting to a total of $109,350,000 (approximately Rs 900 crore).
Eminem becomes a grandfather
The Grammy award-winning rapper has also entered a new phase in life — he is now a grandfather. His daughter Hailie Jade Scott, 29, and her husband Evan McClintock recently welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Elliot Marshall McClintock.
Scott announced the news on Instagram, posting the first photo of her newborn son, who wore a light blue hooded sweater. The image was set against a sign that read, “Elliot Marshall McClintock 03.14.25”, revealing that the baby's middle name was chosen in honor of Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers.
“Happy due date // 3 weeks earthside little one,” Hailie sweetly wrote in her caption.
Back in October 2024, Eminem shared his excitement in the music video for his song Temporary, which featured touching home videos of Hailie growing up. Toward the end of the video, there’s a clip of Hailie revealing to her dad that she’s expecting her first child with her husband — a moment that now holds even more meaning.
