2025 has been a wonderful year for television and streaming. Squid Game returned to Netflix, and Landman blasted up Paramount+. Along the way, old faves like NCIS and Love Island continued to do well on 'conventional' platforms. Despite this, an Australian children's program outperformed all of these popular television shows in terms of viewership. The world's most popular television show has already garnered 25 billion views.

Nielsen, a multinational market research business, compiles data on viewership and TV ratings for shows around the world. In its most recent report, published last month, the company revealed the most-streamed and viewed TV episodes worldwide from January to June 2025. And, while popular titles such as Squid Game, The White Lotus, and The Night Agent made the top 20, they were far from the top. Bluey, an Australian cartoon show, currently holds the top spot. According to Nielsen, Bluey has 25 billion minutes viewed in the first half of 2025, outpacing Grey's Anatomy, which has 22.5 billion.

According to Nielsen, minutes are chosen as a comparative indicator because "it's the great equaliser across dissimilar program categories and ultimately shows how consumers are spending their viewing time."

All about the show Bluey

Bluey has been on Nielsen's streaming ratings for 143 consecutive weeks, either on the overall list or in the Top 10 acquired series, beginning in October 2022. The show consistently ranks at the top since its target audience consists of young children who tend to watch repeat episodes. Its extensive episode library significantly boosts viewing time compared to drama shows such as The White Lotus or Squid Game, which only contain 22-30 episodes.

Bluey, created by Joe Brumm and produced by Queensland-based Ludo Studio, premiered in 2018 and expanded globally the following year. In the United States, it gained popularity after debuting on Disney Junior and then Disney+ in 2019. The show, aimed at preschoolers, features 154 episodes divided over three seasons.

Bluey beats these iconic shows

Nielsen's list includes reruns of popular shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Supernatural, as well as new favourites like The Rookie (15 billion minutes), Reacher (13 billion), and The White Lotus (11 billion). Luminate's independent list of shows from 2025 includes Landman (14.4 billion), Mobland (8 billion), Love Island (8 billion), and The Pitt (6.2 billion).
