Samantha Ruth Prabhu wins interim protection from Bombay HC over AI deepfakes, derogatory content

The Bombay High Court has directed the removal of deepfakes and other unauthorised content allegedly misusing actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu's name, image, voice and other aspects of her personality. The order came after the actor approached the court over the alleged misuse of her identity across AI platforms, e-commerce portals and digital media.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has secured interim protection from the Bombay High Court after seeking legal action against the unauthorised use of her name, photographs, voice and likeness online. The court has ordered the removal of objectionable material, including AI-generated deepfakes and morphed content involving the actor. The order comes as celebrities across India increasingly turn to courts over the use of artificial intelligence to recreate their identities without consent.
Bombay High Court orders takedown
Justice Madhav Jamdar passed the interim order on October 1 while hearing Samantha's personality-rights suit. The court restrained the publication and continued use of unauthorised content using her name, image and voice.
