At a recent style awards gala in Pakistan, Ali paid a musical tribute to celebrated Sufi singer, Amjad Sabri, who was shot dead in Karachi on June 22 in what seemed an "act of terror". There, Ali presented a qawwali for the first time and his soulful rendition caught the attention of makers of the untitled Punjabi film -- a romantic drama.

A source close to the actor-singer claims, "Ali is excited about singing the qawwali track and for that, he will be learning Punjabi. Lyrics for the qawwali will be provided by the makers, but the composition bit will be executed by Ali. He will also make a special appearance as himself in the song sequence."

When we contacted Ali, he said, "It’s too soon to talk about it, but yes, something on these lines is progressing."
