Rajinikanth has recorded his career-best opening with Coolie as the film minted over Rs 65 crores in India. It has even surpassed the record of his previous film 2.0. Talking about it's global collection, the film raked in Rs 151 crores emerging as biggest Kollywood opener worldwide

Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie has finally released and the shows are already going housefull. Audience is flocking to theatres in large number to witness the magic of Thalaiva. The film had raked in a massive advance booking and now it has embarked on a record-breaking start at the box office. Rajinikanth’s Coolie has minted over Rs 65 crores in India and Rs 170 crores globally.

Detailed breakdown of Coolie Day 1 box office


According to the trade website, Coolie earned Rs 65 crore in India on day 1.  It collected Rs 28–30 crore from Tamil Nadu, Rs 16–18 crore from Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Rs 14–15 crore from Karnataka, Rs 10 crore from Kerala. This is now the best opening for Rajinikanth in his career, beating the Rs 60 crore opening for his sci-fi blockbuster, 2.0. However, Coolie failed to dethrone Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, which opened at Rs 66 crore and holds it’s position as biggest opener of Tamil cinema.



Coolie worldwide box office collection

Talking about its global collections, Rajinikanth’s film has grossed around Rs 151 crore to become the highest Kollywood opener of all time globally. It has beaten Vijay’s Leo (Rs 148 crore), also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and GOAT (Rs 127 crore) to achieve this feat at the box office.

For those unaware, Coolie released alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2. The YRF spy universe film minted around Rs 55 crores domestically. It includes great collection from Telugu dubbed version as well. Ahead of this clash of titans, Hrithik took to his social media and sent his best wishes to the team. He also recalled working with Rajinikanth 9 years ago as a child artist. 

Talking about Coolie, alongside Rajinikanth it features powerhouse names like Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. With this film, Rajinikanth celebrates 50 years in the industry. Ahead of release, several stars like Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Lokesh Kanagaraj and others congratulated him.

Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie

Rajinikanth is already busy with his next movie Jailer 2. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the dark comedy is already one of the most hyped Kollywood films, much like Coolie. The movie will release in 2027.
