Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's much-awaited film Coolie will hit theatres in just two days. The demand for tickets across the country is massive despite its box-office clash with the Hindi film War 2. Most shows on August 14 have already sold out. With such high demand, ticket prices have skyrocketed. According to reports, a theatre chain is reportedly selling tickets for as high as Rs 4,500.

Coolie ticket being sold in black

A fan took to X to reveal that Rohini Theatre in Chennai has priced the ticket at Rs 4,500, citing an additional celebration featuring a flower show and a helicopter display as the reason for the premium rate.

Meanwhile, according to reports, in Pollachi, a theatre staff was caught on camera selling FDFS tickets for Rs 400. Although this is illegal, many are taking advantage of the high demand to sell tickets on the black market at exorbitant prices.

Speaking to India Today, a fan said, “I have tried my luck at all the popular theatres in Chennai. They are all priced at Rs 600 or Rs 1,000, with the highest being Rs 4,500. I am not able to book tickets through ticketing apps for the first show, as they are either blocked or sold out. Fans like me have no other choice but to buy tickets in black or wait until the first shows are over to watch the film at government-authorised rates.”

Coolie races ahead in I-Day clash

According to a Hindustan Times report, global sales have already crossed an astounding Rs 50 crore, four days before release. In India, bookings for Coolie began on Friday in a staggered manner. The film has already earned Rs 14 crore domestically, with nearly Rs 10 crore from opening-day sales. The Tamil version leads with close to Rs 10 crore, while the dubbed Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions are expected to pick up pace in the coming days.

In international markets, North America has already touched USD 1.7 million (approximately Rs 14 crore), with USD 1.45 million coming from the USA alone, where over 56,000 tickets have been sold.

The film also stars Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan and Upendra among others.
