National award-winning composer GV Prakash has made headlines after a shocking incident came to light. The music composer and actor allegedly fell victim to an online fraud involving a fake financial appeal from a scammer. GV Prakash reportedly transferred Rs. 20,000 to an unverified user, who claimed to be his fan and made up a story of his mother's death. Soon after, several users warned him that the claim was not authentic. They even pointed out that the image shared by the scammer was an old one and had been taken from Google, thereby exposing the scam.
GV Prakash scammed by fraudster
Emotional stories and fake images are the most widely used baits to draw the attention of netizens into sending money. A few days ago, one such scammer on X (formerly Twitter) uploaded an image of a woman. He claimed that he was in desperate need of financial help after her mother died. He even tagged GV Prakash Kumar, asking for money.
Prakash initially did not respond to the plea posted at 11:12 AM on December 25. Later, the scammer once again tagged him at 1:59 PM, reportedly asking for his help with the ‘last rites’. Prakash responded to the post at 2:24 PM, asking the alleged fan for his Gpay number, and even sent Rs 20,000 to help them out at 2:28 PM along with attaching a screenshot. The user went on to thank him after the money was transferred.
However, GV Prakash's thoughtful gesture eventually resulted in him losing Rs 20,000. Netizens exposed the fraud, after which the person who received the money reportedly stopped answering calls.
