Mammootty's latest film 'Turbo, an action comedy has hit the theatres today. The superstar has been extensively promoting the film. This marks is second release of the year after 'Bramayugam'. He is one of the few actors in India who is enjoying a successful streak at the box office. His previous films like 'Bramayugam', 'Kaathal-The Core' and 'Kannur Squad' performed well, critically and commercially. The actor has been lauded for his choice of scripts and for boosting the image of Malayalam cinema at a time when majority of the films from the state are doing well.

While promoting 'Turbo' in Dubai, Mammootty addressed Malayalam cinema's recent successful streak at the box office and audience acceptance as other industries struggle to get people to the audience. He attributed the success to the evolving taste of the audience. "The audience controls cinema and it undergoes change only if the former does. When people consistently ignore bad films and watch only the good ones, movies naturally improve,” he said, Cue Studio reported.

“We are currently experiencing a good phase with the arrival of consecutive quality films because our audiences support and watch good cinema. Look at other languages/industries; they are failing because they don’t understand their audience. The audience completely controls cinema,” he emphasised.

Helmed by Vysakh and penned by Midhun Manuel Thomas, Turbo, bankrolled by Mammootty himself under the banner of his Mammootty Kampany, will hit the screens on May 23. The film also stars ace Kannada filmmaker-actor Raj B. Shetty, Sunil, Anjana Jayaprakash, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Bindu Panicker in key roles.

The film has already made significant waves, accumulating over Rs 3.25 crore in pre-sales, according to the Sacnilk website. This impressive figure positions ‘Turbo’ among the top contenders in the pre-sale earnings race, closely chasing behind notable films like Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘King of Kotha’ and Prithviraj’s ‘Aadujeevitham.’

Since January, Malayalam hits like 'Premalu', 'Manjummel Boys', 'Aadujeevitham and the recent Aavesham have proved to be a box office successes with films breaking records.

Mammootty's last release 'Bramayugam' became the highest-grossing black and white film in Indian cinema. His other acclaimed hits in the recent past include Abraham Ozler, Kaathal – The Core, Kannur Squad, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Rorschach, Puzhu, CBI 5: The Brain and Bheeshma Parvam.
