Ilaiyaraaja receives bomb threat
According to a report in The Hindu, an email was received by Ilaiyaraaja and the DGP's office on Tuesday, claiming that an explosive was planted at the musician's studio. Acting on the mail, the police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the composer’s studio and conducted an extensive search.
After the inspection, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax, similar to the earlier ones received by Trisha and Vijay. Authorities revealed that the email was sent from a Hotmail address and was similar to those sent to other VIPs in Chennai over the past few weeks. The police are currently investigating the matter and tracing the source of the email that led to panic.
About bomb threats to Vijay and Trisha
Following the tragic Karur stampede, actor and politician Vijay received two bomb threats targeting his Chennai residence. Reportedly, in September last week, the police received a call from Kanyakumari on the emergency number 100. The caller warned that a bomb would be planted at Vijay’s home if he held any future public meetings for his political career. The police had also received a similar threat on September 29.
Meanwhile, in the first week of October, actress Trisha received a bomb threat at her residence in Chennai. Sources said that police swiftly arrived at her Teynampet home and, along with sniffer dogs, conducted a thorough search—only to discover the threat was false.
Sources added that prominent dignitaries, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, had also received similar threats. Although these have been declared hoaxes, Tamil Nadu police are leaving no stone unturned to identify those behind them, as such incidents have been rising lately.
Last month, a bomb threat to the residence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami in Chennai also raised alarm.
