Odia music director Abhijit Majumdar has been in a critical state. He has reportedly slipped into a coma and is currently battling for life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and placed on ventilator support since Thursday afternoon. Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling visited Abhijit on Sunday and hinted that he could be airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for treatment.

According to a medical bulletin issued by AIIMS, Majumdar has a history of multiple comorbidities, including hypertension, hypothyroidism and chronic liver disease. He was taken to the emergency ward in a comatose state around 10 am on Thursday and was shifted to the medical ICU by noon after being diagnosed with pneumonia and other severe complications.
“He is critically ill, in a comatose condition, and currently on ventilator support. While his blood pressure and pulse remain stable, his overall condition continues to be critical,” said Dr Srikant Behera, Assistant Professor of General Medicine at AIIMS. Currently, a multidisciplinary team of specialists is monitoring his vitals round the clock, as his treatment continues on an emergency basis.
The composer reportedly remains comatose with a Glasgow coma scale (GCS) reading of E2, VT, М2-3, and is on mechanical ventilation. Doctors have managed to stabilise his kidney and liver functions while correcting electrolyte abnormalities so far. Additionally, he is being administered culture-directed antibiotics and is under continuous supportive care as per standard protocol.
To be shifted to AIIMS Delhi
Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling visited Majumdar in the hospital on Sunday, September 7, to review his health conditions with doctors and family members. The minister assured them that for specialised care, consultations with AIIMS Delhi would be arranged.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said, “After discussing with doctors, we found out that all the treatment is being done following the right protocol. His organs are functioning fine so far. A team of doctors is already treating him, and we will also consult with a team of doctors from Delhi AIIMS. I have instructed that a special team of doctors start treating him, and we hope that he recovers soon.”
