With less than a week to go before the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF) kicks off on December 4, the organisers have added two notable films to the line-up. Executive producer Kiran Rao’s ‘Humans in the Loop’, which has won praise since its release in September,  will be screened in Mumbai on December 14, and the Marathi short film ‘Panha’ on December 13.

In ‘Humans in the Loop’, director Aranya Sahay questions the human cost of technological advancement as he tells the story of an Adivasi woman who works as an AI data labeller. Glad that ALT EFF chooses socially relevant stories, Rao says the film reflects today’s reality. “This film speaks to the times we live in, where human intuition and indigenous wisdom are often overlooked in our race toward automation. It’s a reminder that technology should serve humanity, not the other way around,” she emphasises.

Meanwhile, actor, producer, and environmental advocate Dia Mirza has thrown her might behind ‘Panha’, which revolves around a village boy from Maharashtra whose family’s mango farm faces destruction due to the construction of a bullet train. Hoping that the short film reaches a wider audience through the upcoming festival, Mirza says, “This is a story close to my heart because it reflects what so many communities across India are experiencing — the delicate struggle between progress and preservation.”
