Actor-director Rishab Shetty is currently basking in the success of his latest film Kantara: Chapter 1, which took Indian cinema by storm. The actor recently opened up about a deeply personal and lesser-known fact of his life. He revealed that his real name is not Rishab and also revealed the reason for his name change.

During a candid conversation on The Right Angle, Season 2, with Sonal Kalra, Rishab shared that his father, who is an astrologer, had a major influence on his screen identity. Rishab revealed, “My real name is Prashant. My father suggested I change it to Rishab for better prospects in work." Interestingly, he shared that both names, Prashant and Rishab, were chosen by his father himself.
The revelation adds a personal dimension to Rishab’s inspiring journey. He came from a town located in coastal Karnataka and went on to become one of India’s most respected filmmakers. According to trade analyst, Kantara Chapter 1 earned Rs 8.87 crore on day 15, after its release on October 2, 2025. That takes its net collection in the country to Rs 485.32 crore. The movie is expected to cross the Rs 500 crore mark this weekend in the country. Meanwhile, it has already crossed Rs 717.5 crore worldwide.
Given the extended Diwali holiday weekend, the movie is expected to witness a spike in collections. Rishab Shetty’s film earned Rs 337.4 crore in the first seven days, while collecting only Rs 147.87 crore during the second week. That indicates more than a 50% dip in earnings.
Additionally, after the Diwali weekend, Kantara will have to contend with Ayushmann Khurana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, at the box office.
