Singer Chinmayi Sripada recently hit back at a troll for unnecessarily bringing up her 2018 sexual harassment accusations against lyricist Vairamuthu. A user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked that she could not 'save' herself when she was molested. The singer slammed the troll, asking them to vanish into thin air.

It started after the user commented on her husband, Rahul Ravindran's mangalsutra remark, saying that it is his wife's choice whether to wear it or not, since it's no fair that men have no visible sign of being married. Replying to it, Chinmayi noted, "He literally said it in some context on an interview, which has become a tweet. The rage from the men calling him all sorts of abuses - I am worried for the women here, truth be told."

To this, one user responded to her saying, "You couldn't save your ass when Vairamuthu allegedly groped you, but here you are worried for other women." Chinmayi did take the troll lightly and lashed out at him, saying, "Yes. Because getting groped and molested is MY fault. Why do men like you have to bring up my sexual harassment episode and my molester to prove some non-point? Just please vanish into thin air in Delhi so that I don't have to breathe it."

The troll then questioned Chinmayi on why she brings up Hindu culture every time a rape occurs, asking her why she calls India the 'rape capital.' The singer replied to this saying, "I asked you. Why did you have to bring up my sexual abuse? I have no answer, and India anyway gets a travel advisory for women from every country. You are a rape apologist, and the reason why India is a rape capital is because of people like you."

Chinmayi's sexual harassment accusations

Notably, back in 2018, Chinmayi publicly commented on sexual harassment s part of the MeToo movement in India. She reportedly accused lyricist Vairamuthu of assault during a concert trip back in 2005. Her testimony gave rise to similar allegations by nearly 20 women against lyricist Vairamuthu.

However, she was removed from the South Indian Cine, Television Artistes and Dubbing Artistes Union for supporting other women who accused union president Radha Ravi of misconduct. Despite these consequences, Chinmayi has continued supporting survivors and speaking out.

Chinmayi married director Rahul Ravindran in 2014 after a year of dating. The couple is blessed with twins, Driptah and Sharvas. They have together continued to be vocal on issues related to gender and social norms.
