Makers of Suriya's Karuppu express regret to Ilaiyaraaja for satirical dialogue, announce removal of scene

The makers of Karuppu have expressed regret over a dialogue referencing Ilaiyaraaja that caused controversy. They clarified there was no intention to disrespect the legendary composer and said the scene will be modified in future versions

RJ Balaji-directed Karuppu was released in theatres on May 15. The film stars Suriya in the lead with Trisha and RJ Balaji in prominent roles. The story is centered around a courtroom drama where a divine force (Suriya) arrives on earth to execute justice. On Tuesday, the makers of the film issued a clarification regarding a scene in the film that has offended legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja. In the film, a satirical dialogue references to Ilaiyaraaja's music copy right claims. As the dialogue led to a controversy, the makers shared that the intention was never to hurt anyone.

The makers have also announced that they had decided to remove/modify the concerned portion in future versions and subsequent exploitations of the film.
