Thalapathy Vijay and Prabhas

Thalapathy Vijay has been in the news for his political endeavours as he gears up to contest his maiden polls next year. Amidst this, he is also working on his final film, Jana Nayagan. The makers confirmed today that the film will hit theatres on January 9, coinciding with the festive week of Pongal and Sankranti. It’s the first major festival of the year and usually sees South filmmakers eyeing the date. Apart from Jana Nayagan, Prabhas’s The RajaSaab will also release on the same day. While both films belong to different industries, both actors enjoy a massive fan base across the country.

Jana Nayagan to be released on Pongal 2026

Thalapathy Vijay is known to be a box office magnet. With Jana Nayagan touted to be his last film, it is expected to bring in record-breaking numbers. The first-look teaser of the film was unveiled in June this year to mark the actor’s birthday.

The 65-second teaser opens with Vijay’s voice saying, “You guys will live in my heart,” followed by a striking visual of him walking in a police uniform, lathi in hand, through what resembles a war-torn battlefield,  a shot that blends power, calm, and consequence, signaling that this farewell will be anything but ordinary.

Directed by H. Vinoth, known for his compelling narratives and nuanced storytelling, the film also features music by Anirudh Ravichander, whose collaborations with Vijay have consistently delivered blockbuster tracks.

Backed by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan is set for a grand worldwide release on January 9, 2026, perfectly timed for the festive Pongal weekend. With anticipation at fever pitch, the film promises to be a spectacular send-off — a cinematic celebration of a legacy three decades in the making. The film also stars Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles.

Prabhas's The Raja Saab to release on January 9

After multiple delays, the makers of Prabhas’s horror comedy have locked January 9, 2026 as the release date. Recently, the production house dismissed rumours of another postponement.

They said, “Fake rumours surfaced online claiming the film’s delay. We clarify that The RajaSaab will release as announced on January 9, 2026, without any delay.”

Post-production and VFX are progressing rapidly, and a grand pre-release event is planned in the U.S. in December. The first copy of the film is expected to be ready by December 25. Directed by Maruthi and produced by T.G. Vishwa Prasad, the film is being mounted on a grand scale and marks Prabhas’s first full-fledged horror entertainer.
