Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay held his party's Special General Committee meeting in Mahabalipuram, Chennai, on Wednesday morning. This marked his first public speech since the Karur tragedy that claimed 41 lives. The meeting was attended by hundreds of general committee members, including party leader Vijay, General Secretaries N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Arun Raj, and Treasurer Venkataraman.

Vijay addresses events after Karur tragedy

In his speech, Vijay said that his party will not stop and will contest the next state assembly polls. He said, “I will repeat what I said in my last public meeting. When nature and God are with us, when our own people stand with us, who can stop us? All these struggles are just temporary; let us shatter them. Our journey will not be stopped. Let’s be confident, and good things are bound to happen.”

Vijay also addressed the political narrative that was made after the stampede. "I was in indescribable pain and distress all these days because of losing members of our family. In such a situation, it is our duty to stand by the feelings of our own people. During the time of silence and mourning, meaningless rumours and malicious political narratives were spread and forced upon us. All of this is aimed at destroying law and truth. However, we will stand firmly on the side of the law and truth, and dispel these falsehoods.”

Vijay takes a dig at CM MK Stalin

Taking a dig at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, the actor-turned-politician said, "The Chief Minister, who repeatedly says that he has no desire to do politics, spoke many slanderous things about us in the Assembly. The same Chief Minister who preaches magnanimity in words, in reality, poured out venom and malice in his speech. Do you think the people of Tamil Nadu will fail to recognise what kind of politics that is?"

Vijay alleged that his campaign faced restrictions "no other political leader in India had ever faced". "We were told to stay inside buses, not to wave at people, not to stand on the roof of the bus -- so many constraints were imposed," he said.

"The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, who has made false accusations against us without honesty or integrity, should be asked a few questions," he said, adding that the DMK government spent "crores of rupees to hire 'learned' lawyers" who "stood helpless before the Supreme Court, unable to defend the government's lies and fabrications."

The actor also called out the ‘meaningless’ political narratives made after the stampede, stating, “I was in indescribable pain and distress all these days because of losing members of our family.
