The makers of Prabhas’s The RajaSaab have dismissed comparisons with Bhool Bhulaiyaa, clarifying that the film is a full-fledged horror fantasy with a distinct world and narrative. Producer T.G. Vishwa Prasad predicts a Rs 100 crore-plus opening day
The RajaSaab
Actor Prabhas’s The RajaSaab has finally hit theatres after a long wait. The horror-comedy drama has often been compared to Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa (itself a remake of the Malayalam classic Manichitrathazhu). Following the trailer launch, many viewers pointed out similarities between the two films, including the palace setting, a mysterious ghost, and a psychiatrist in the storyline. The makers of The RajaSaab have now put these speculations to rest by clarifying the comparisons.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa vs The RajaSaab
In an interview with Pinkvilla, producer T.G. Vishwa Prasad refuted any similarities between The RajaSaab and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. He stated that Prabhas’s film is a full-fledged horror fantasy with a completely different narrative. “We had to design a fantasy keeping India’s biggest star in mind. So, it is significantly different in terms of visual elements as well as the background story,” he said.
Actor Riddhi Kumar also addressed the comparisons, saying, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa is an incredible film—I love it—but it was very realistically grounded. It was set in a real palace, in a real situation, with real people. The RajaSaab has a psychological element too, but it also ventures into a fantasy world. The whole point of fantasy is to create something that has never existed.”
Actress Nidhhi Agerwal added that she hopes The RajaSaab creates the same impact that Bhool Bhulaiyaa did.
Maruthi expects 100 crore opening for The RajaSaab
Recently, director Maruthi also responded to filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga referring to Prabhas as India’s biggest superstar for the upcoming film Spirit. Having worked with several South Indian stars, including Nani and Venkatesh, Maruthi avoided a direct label and instead described Prabhas as a “pan-world star.”
“I feel he is a global star, not just pan-India. People across the world are watching him. In Japan, for instance, he is loved a lot. His heart is such that he attracts love,” Maruthi said.
However, he admitted that the pressure of directing The RajaSaab comes not just from the film itself, but also from working with a superstar. “Of course, that pressure will be there. I can’t say there’s no pressure at all. But I’ve seen the film and I liked it very much. When you watch it, you’ll see how we’ve built a completely different world,” he added.
Echoing Maruthi’s confidence, producer T.G. Vishwa Prasad predicted a massive opening. “In my opinion, it will definitely be more than ₹100 crore on day one,” he said, adding that while The RajaSaab is releasing across multiple languages in India, a dubbed version will also be released in Japan in the coming months.
Besides Prabhas, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar.
