Yash’s Toxic teaser sparked controversy over its intimate visuals, leading to complaints of obscenity. Amid the backlash, an old interview of the actor expressing conservative views on screen intimacy resurfaced
Still from Toxic teaser
Kannada actor Yash will soon be seen in the film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film has been co-written by Yash and Mohandas. The teaser, which was released earlier this month on Yash’s 40th birthday, has become the talk of the town. However, a section of the audience slammed the teaser for its intimate visuals between Yash’s character Ray and a woman. This has also led to formal complaints being filed against the makers for alleged obscenity. Amid this controversy, an old interview of Yash has gone viral.
Yash's old video viral
Amid the controversy surrounding the bold scenes in the Toxic teaser, a video of Yash speaking on the show Weekend with Ramesh has resurfaced. In a conversation with host Ramesh Aravind on the Kannada talk show, Yash had said, “I won’t do any movie scenes that I wouldn’t feel comfortable watching with my parents.”
While many trolled Yash for his previous statement, others came out in support of the actor, stating that people’s perspectives change with time and age.
Toxic teaser controversy
Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli has filed a formal complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), objecting to the “obscene, sexually explicit and morally offensive scenes” in the teaser. According to the complaint addressed to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, the teaser of Toxic contains scenes that are “grossly obscene, sexually explicit, and vulgar in nature.”
“The said trailer is being widely circulated on various social media platforms without any effective restriction, thereby exposing the general public, including minors and young persons, to content that is legally impermissible and socially harmful,” the complaint stated.
The complainant urged the CBFC to review the trailer, take necessary steps including the removal of the contentious scenes, and restrict its circulation.
Similarly, the women’s wing of the AAP’s Karnataka unit submitted a formal complaint to the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSWC) against the teaser, seeking appropriate action, including its removal.
CBFC reacts to Toxic complaints
According to an NDTV report, sources in the CBFC have clarified that the Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups teaser was released exclusively on YouTube and therefore does not fall under the certification body’s jurisdiction. CBFC officials stated that certification is mandatory only for films and trailers meant for theatrical release, while online promotional content released on digital platforms remains outside the CBFC’s purview.
