Ektaa Kapoor on ALTT app
In a significant move aimed at regulating the digital streaming space, the Centre on Friday banned more than 20 Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms and apps for supposedly streaming indecent and sexually explicit content. Among the apps identified for violating various laws are ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, among others. After this ban, Ektaa Kapoor has sternly issued a statement clarifying she has no association with ALTT app.
Ektaa Kapoor’s statement
The statement comes shortly after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) banned the platform. Ektaa took to her social media and shared a note that read, “Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization and following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) duly approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025”.

She further added, “Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts. Balaji Telefilms is fully compliant of all applicable laws and continues to operate it’s business with the highest standards of corporate governance.”
Ektaa on ALTT content
In an interview with journalist Faye D’Souza, Ekta admitted that being “risque" was a deliberate part of the platform’s strategy. “I had gone for a holiday, and my son was inside the house and I didn’t know what was happening," she said, recounting the time there was a protest outside her residence due to ALTT’s content.
Ektaa added, “I feel bad girls make history… you have to be out there, and some people will hate you, but you have to say what you believe in. I always say that I don’t have a problem with sex. I have a lot of problems with sexual crime."
On the work front, she is currently working on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi season 2 with Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Shakti Arora and others. The show will start on 29th July.
