Ashneer Grover, the former co-founder and managing director of the Indian finance business BharatPe, became an overnight sensation after appearing on the first season of Shark Tank India. His abrasive demeanor and razor-sharp phrases rapidly became his trademark, and the term "doglapan" stood out. What began as a casual remark quickly went viral, becoming a meme, a fan favourite, and finally the title of his book 'Doglapan: The Hard Truth about Life and Start-Ups'.

Farah Khan, a filmmaker and choreographer, recently visited Ashneer's Delhi home for a new episode of her YouTube series, during which the entrepreneur revealed that he had officially trademarked the phrase "doglapan." Farah, curious by the story, inquired, pointing to his book, "Where did this start?"

On trademarking 'doglapan'

Ashneer recalled the incident, "At Shark Tank, mai kisiki utaar raha tha when I blurted out 'doglapan.'" Farah interrupted him and said, "Kisi ki nahi, sabki utaar raha tha." The two burst out laughing as Ashneer claimed he had no clue the phrase would become so popular.

Farah then inquired whether the viral event had inspired his book. Ashneer's wife Madhuri, interjected, "Yes, and that's when he went ahead and trademarked Doglapan."

Ashneer then joked, "Now, every time you say the word doglapan, you’ll have to pay Rs 50,000." Farah immediately turned to her co-guest Dilip and warned, "Bhai, don’t say doglapan, warna paise dene padenge."

Ashneer talks about OCD

As the house tour progressed, Farah noticed a beautiful fireplace and commented, "This kind of fireplace can only exist in Delhi." Ashneer claimed that he has four of them in his home. When Farah noticed a Shark Tank trophy hidden inside one, she taunted, "Out of four fireplaces, you chose to keep your Shark Tank trophy in one?" Ashneer laughed and said, "I had to fit it somewhere."

Later, while admiring the big house, Farah asked Madhuri who controlled everything. Without hesitation, Madhuri stated, "Home management is my speciality. Ashneer becomes stressed. Ashneer went on to say, "I have OCD, so everything has to be absolutely perfect."

Farah chuckled, "In that case, you must have gone crazy on Shark Tank." Ashneer concurred with her statement: "It was quite visible on TV." Farah said with a giggle, "Your OCD must have been overcharged."
