Residents of Mumbai are becoming more and more impacted by the city's deteriorating air pollution, and actor Hina Khan has now shared her personal experience. The actor has disclosed that the bad quality of the air has started to affect her health, causing her to cough and have trouble breathing comfortably.

Hina Khan talks about the AQI scare

Hina posted a screenshot of Mumbai's low air quality index on Instagram Stories on Tuesday. Hina posted the photo along with a statement about how the poor quality of the air is making her stay indoors and limit her outdoor activities. “What is happening? Can’t ever breathe, yaaa,” Hina wrote. She added, “Makes me reduce my outdoor activities. Constant coughing. It’s so bad in the morning as well.”

Actor and fitness advocate Saiyami Kher had expressed grave concerns over the city's growing AQI prior to Hina. "Even a basic run has become such a chore. Saiyami told Hindustan Times, "Every time I go outside, I see people around me constantly coughing, and that is extremely alarming."

Mumbai's air quality has gotten worse since last week; according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city's total Air Quality Index (AQI) has increased to 140, placing it in the "moderate" category. The majority of monitoring stations saw an increase, suggesting a citywide buildup of pollutants rather than individual spikes.

Compared to previous week, when AQI readings ranged from 101 to 108, the current levels represent a significant drop. Byculla had an AQI of 194, one of the highest in the city, and other locations reported high levels of pollution. Mazgaon (171), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, T2 (169), and Deonar (160) came next.

The situation is being closely watched, according to civic officials at the moment. The lack of dispersion, not new pollutants, was blamed by a BMC official for the deteriorating air quality. “Pollutants are lingering in the atmosphere because winds are stagnant. Our squads are active at ongoing work sites, although many staff members are currently deployed on election duty,” the official said.

On the work front

In addition to a number of popular TV shows, Hina has had appearances on the reality series Bigg Boss 11 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8. Recently, she appeared in the web series Griha Laxmi. After the show's filming was over, Hina received a diagnosis of the illness. Last year, Hina wed Rocky Jaiswal, her longtime partner.
