Smriti Irani is always open about her personal and professional problems. The actress-turned-politician recently opened up about the difficulties she encountered while working on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and her talk show Kuch Dil Se.

During an appearance on Raj Shamani's podcast, Smriti Irani confessed that she returned to work three days after giving birth to her baby. "My son was three days old when I returned to the set of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi." Why? "Because everyone wanted to watch a new episode every day at 10:30 p.m.," she explained.

Smriti Irani recalls giving hospital reports as proof of her miscarriage to Ektaa Kapoor

Smriti Irani also revealed that she continued shooting after a miscarriage. Producer Ravi Chopra gave her a week off during that difficult period, but due to the show's daily schedule, Ektaa Kapoor was unable to grant her leave. Smriti recalled, “Somebody in the production went and told Ektaa, ‘We're ready to shoot. But Smriti Irani isn't available. She is lying. Nothing has actually happened to her.' So I had to go back with my hospital reports to prove it actually happened.”

Smriti, who was one of the highest-paid television actors at the time, also spoke up about being replaced while in the hospital after delivering child. She was working on Kuch Dil Se, a daily chat program, and had taped enough episodes to last her one-month sabbatical.

Smriti shared, “I was working with somebody till the last day of the ninth month. It was a daily talk show, Kuch Dil Se. I was told to record a bank of worth 30 days and come back to work after 30 days.”  Despite doctors' and family's constant warnings, she continued to shoot for both series in order to pay off her mortgage faster.

When Smriti got replaced from Kuch Dil Se

Then came the hit. "I'm in the hospital after giving birth to my baby, and I get a wire saying, 'You're fired.'" And I had just shot (for the talk show) the day before. They were only waiting for me to enter the hospital before telling me I was fired. They had already established a bank so that they could replace me. "They intended to use my hard work in favour of my replacement," Smriti explained.

How did she react? Calm. "They hired a movie actor for it. Their show was much larger, and they were a bigger name. The show then stopped. "It never started again," the actor explained.

Years later, Smriti Irani is slated to appear on television in a reprised version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Beginning July 29, the show will air on StarPlus. Fans may watch it on JioHotstar.
