The beginning of 2026 has brought the end of a chapter for Shweta Tripathi. On January 10, the actor wrapped up the shoot of Mirzapur: The Film in Mumbai. Looking back on the months-long shoot that saw original cast members Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, Divyenndu and Harshita Gaur reprise their roles from the Prime Video crime drama series, Shweta says the experience felt less like returning to a franchise and more like catching up with family. “People keep calling it a film version, but for us, it didn’t feel like a format shift. It felt like a natural extension of the story we’ve been living with for so long. The scale and the grammar change, but the emotional spine remains the same,” she said.

Originally created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur gave Shweta one of the biggest web series of her career. But there’s something bigger that the series and now the film, directed by Gurmmeet Singh, have given her. “This show gave me my creative family. We’ve grown up together in this industry. We’ve failed, succeeded, and questioned ourselves; this film carries all of that history. Wrapping up the film feels emotional. When we wrapped the final schedule, there was a strange silence on set. No one wanted to say goodbye.”
