Celebrated Indian chef Vikas Khanna, whose restaurant Bungalow has been making waves in New York’s dining scene, marked a proud milestone on August 15 by launching his 39th book Festivals at the Bungalow while ringing the NASDAQ closing bell on India’s Independence Day.
Sharing the moment, Khanna wrote on Instagram, “Today was a historic day in a billion ways. On this sacred day of India’s Independence, I stood at the NASDAQ Closing Bell Ceremony—a moment I could never have imagined when I first began my journey 26 years ago in New York City.”

“This honour is more than a milestone. It reflects decades of sleepless nights, relentless hustle, and an undying love for sharing Indian cuisine & hospitality with the world,” he added.
In the same post, Khanna revealed that the day also marked the launch of his 39th book, which is “a celebration of our traditions, festivals, and stories that continue to connect India to the world.”
The celebrity chef has authored several books on cooking and India’s culinary heritage. This book, too, is an ode to the country’s rich traditions, festivals, flavours, crafts, and more.
In a previous Instagram post, Khanna shared the ethos of the book, writing, “Over the past 510 days, the world has witnessed hundreds of celebrations of India at Bungalow. Today, we gather those moments, those words, those emotions—and place them within the pages of a book. A true representation of us.”
Along with the book launch, Khanna’s restaurant Bungalow celebrated both Independence Day and Janmashtami with special festivities honouring Indian culture. The Independence Day celebrations featured tricolour-themed décor and dishes. On Janmashtami, the restaurant served petit fours inspired by Mathura Pedas, as a tribute to Lord Krishna’s childhood.
