With over 1,300 coins, banknotes and medals on auction, and over 95 philately and numismatic enthusiasts from all over India, showcasing their collection of stamps, coins and banknotes, the 23rd Shukla Day, is all set to make its mark once again as the country&rsquo;s most popular numismatic and philately fair.

Starting from April 18, a three-day fair will give philately and numismatic enthusiasts a unique chance to catch some of the rarest and rich collections from all over the country, and at the same time discuss what philately and numismatics is all about, says Kaizad F. Todywalla, joint convener of the fair. &ldquo;We have invited the Indian Institute of Numismatics Research Institute to offer their collection of books on numismatics,&rdquo; he adds.
What&rsquo;s on display? The fair will also see over 1,300 coins, banknotes and medals being auctioned over three days at the fair. Some of the rare items going under the hammer include about the 2,400-year-old silver punched mark coin from the Gandhara and Magadha Janapada period, eight gram gold coins of Emperor Chandra Gupta, and an extremely rare coin of Tirupati Balaji featuring Lord Venkateshwara on the front side of the coin. The coin was minted by the Vijaynagar King Krishna Deva Raya to mark his visit to the Tirupati Balaji Temple in 1516AD. The Tirupati Balaji coin is expected to fetch over R3 lakhs. Also part of the auction are historically important coins of Kashmir kings Meghavana and Pravarsena.
If you love all things Mumbai, then look out for some of the earliest gold coins struck in Mumbai for circulation in the Bombay Presidency area, which covered areas from Gujarat in the north to Goa in the south. &ldquo;We also have gold coins from the Mughal Empire featuring its emperors, all the way from Akbar to Jehangir and Shah Jehan,&rdquo; informs Todywalla. These coins are priced from R1 lakh to as low as Rs 1,000.
Todywalla Auctions will also offer coin lovers a free appraisal on the value of their prized collections including coins and other collectibles at the fair.
