This year marks the 25th year of the Kalavardhini Charitable Trust (KCT) as well as the 50th year in the career of its founder Dr Sucheta Chapekar, who is a renowned exponent and scholar of Bharatanatyam. To celebrate the occasion, Kalavardhini will present its fifth annual festival, Parikramaa, in a grand way and the festival will feature senior artistes from across India. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/sep/Dr-Sucheta-Chapekar.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 451px;" /> Dr Sucheta Chapekaru00a0 Speaking about the event, Dr Sucheta Chapekar, a Sangeet Natak Academy awardee, says the aim of the event is to spread awareness of all Classical dance forms and music, its relevance in today&rsquo;s time, and to entertain the audience. &ldquo;Parikramaa is a dance festival which brings together veteran dancers and musicians of today and tomorrow, from all over India and abroad. It also generates new thought processes by way of the symposium which features a group discussion with experts from dance and music fields.&rdquo; <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/sep/Armelle-Choquard.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 610px;" /> Armelle Choquardu00a0 With an emphasis on art education, KCT conducts training programmes in Pune as well as in 10 cities across Maharashtra and Goa, in France and the US. Dr Chapekar adds, &ldquo;Every year, we aspire to host a dance festival that enthralls the audience with scholastic contributions. The music and dance-loving audience is the major attraction to organise this festival.&rdquo; <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/sep/Jyotika.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 696px;" /> Jyotika This year, several of the performers at Parikramaa are from France -- Pauline Reibell, Armelle Choquard, Jyotika, Josiane Sarrazin and Jessminda Veera Pillay. Speaking about the experience, Choquard said that she likes Classical dance as it is a combination of music, art, dance and drama and though she found it tough to learn these dance forms, but she slowly overcamethe challenges. Dr Chapekar adds that as the girls are staying at her home presently, they are learning the traditions followed at home. &ldquo;While language can initially be a problem, they are good at learningdance.&rdquo; Schedule Day one On: September 28, 6 pm to 10 pm At: Balgandharva Rangmandir. The festival will be inaugurated with Arghyam, a Bharatanatyam performance by a French Ensemble comprising Armelle Choquard, Josiane Sarrazin, Jyotika, Pauline Reibell, Jessminda Veera Pillay and the disciples of Dr Sucheta Chapekar. Nritya Ganga will be performed by Asavari Devadiga (US). This will be followed by Abhivyakti, a Bharatanatyam performance by Shijith and Parwati Nambiar from Chennai. Day two On: September 29, 10 am to 1 pm At: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The festival will commence with Samvaad, a symposium featuring speakers such as Padmini Ganesh, Armelle Choquard, and Shijith Nambiar, who will discuss dance-related issues. On: September 29, 10 am to 1 pm At: Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagriha. The session will commence with a Swara-Laya instrumental by Satyajit Talwalkar and Group.
