While the world might be quietly pushing everyone to measure success, India's Gen-Z singles are rewriting the dating rulebook. These rules are quite different from the ones that were set by Millennials over the years, and their new understanding of relationships showcases this.
A new survey by Indian dating app QuackQuack on changing perspectives of singles on the application revealed that a significant number of people no longer find unsuccessful matches a waste of time and effort. Interestingly, nearly 53 per cent of Indian dating singles today believe fleeting connections and conversations that do not leave the chatbox for the real world also add value to their dating experience.
The idea that every connection and every interaction must lead to commitment and exclusivity is slowly losing its grip, taking pressure away from dating in modern Indian relationships. Uma, a 29-year-old from Hyderabad, who participated in the survey, said, "Sometimes it's okay if a match simply exists, serves its purpose of giving temporary companionship, and even better if it does not end up as a cautionary tale."
The study was conducted among 10,293 active users between the ages of 22 and 27, from February to June 2026. Participants were chosen from metros, suburbs, and rural regions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the changing thinking style.
The app's founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, commented, "For years, we have told ourselves that every match should amount to something meaningful or else the time spent cannot be justified. But for Gen-Zs, human connections are not like business transactions, and they don't put extra pressure on themselves like their predecessors. They allow connections to impact them without forcing permanence. In a way, this generation has a healthier understanding of relationships. They get that sometimes connections work out simply because they existed at the right time, and some don't just because the timing wasn't in favour."
