The cat’s whiskers

With the real ‘miracle man’ safely recovering at home, Ayesha Shroff and daughter Krishna make an appearance in Fort on Wednesday.

Silencing Satire

When power gets bruised by a pencil, the first instinct is to break the nib. And so it is that prolific cartoonist Satish Acharya has had his Instagram account silenced across India under that familiar, chilling disclaimer: “restricted access to this account pursuant to legal requirements.”

It appears his hard-hitting political cartoons are cutting a little too close to the bone. And this isn’t an isolated flare-up. His handle was abruptly blocked on September 28, only to be restored after he escalated the matter with Meta. Now, as of October 20, he finds himself restricted yet again.
The clampdown follows a deliberate, creeping playbook, Satish tells yours truly: “It starts with individual posts getting restricted. Once three or four posts get blocked, the entire profile is restricted.”
During the first round, prominent voices including Prashant Bhushan and Abhijeet Dipke rallied in his corner. This time, Satish has migrated his work to a backup account, opting to wait a week to see if sanity prevails before charting his next move. We will be waiting and watching too.

Dazzling Debut

If a glamorous bevy of suburban stars braved Mumbai’s punishing midweek traffic to trek down to Fort on Wednesday, it was solely for the clearly beloved Farah Khan Ali. Earlier this month, I told you about her 24-year-old son, Azaan Ali, stepping out from behind the atelier curtains to bow his debut line, ‘The Miracle Man’ — a sharp edit of heavy-hitting sterling silver and eclectic gemstones. Last evening, the pieces finally had their coming-out party at Farah’s flagship, and the room sparkled accordingly.

At its core, the night was an affectionate celebration of clan solidarity. With the collection framed as an ode to brotherhood, Azaan’s cousins rallied en masse, flanked by proud uncles Zayed and Fardeen Khan, alongside aunts Sussanne Khan and Simone Arora.
The boutique buzzed with easy bonhomie as high-society familiars drifted past the vitrines. Neelam Kothari Soni, Seema Sajdeh, Sushmita Sen, Pragya Kapoor, and an ever-effervescent Chunky Panday worked the room, while Alvira Khan Agnihotri paused on the pavement to indulge the waiting paparazzi with Deanne Panday.

Even Ayesha Shroff and daughter Krishna stepped out to show their love — a particularly poignant, warm show of support given the testing, turbulent week the family has quietly weathered. Spotting Tanya Deol — arm candy impeccably sorted courtesy of a stunning Hermès Kelly — capped off an evening where high-wattage style met genuine family pride, just as one has come to expect from this ‘Khan’daan.

From Crease To Canvas

When Frieze London rolls into town, Mayfair naturally turns into the center of the universe — and on October 13, the chicest corner was unmistakably on Park Street.
Brian Lara, Vasudha Ruia, and Ajinkya Rahane
Vasudha Ruia threw open the doors of her lavish Mayfair townhouse to toast the opening of the art fair, co-hosting alongside husband Prashant Ruia, Director at Essar Capital. Beneath glittering chandeliers and surrounded by the kind of museum-grade art collection that makes gallery directors weak at the knees, London’s cultural elite mingled with Mumbai power players, including Ashish Goel.
The real showstoppers, however, were trading the pitch for the salon. Brian Lara and Ajinkya Rahane both turned up dressed to the absolute nines — sharp, impeccably tailored, and looking every bit the connoisseurs.
The cricketing stars seem to be having quite the regal season in London. Earlier that day, Lara and Rahane were spotted knocking a ball around with Prince William on the tarmac outside Buckingham Palace — giving the concept of ‘gully cricket’ a wildly aristocratic upgrade. By night, the bats were shelved for champagne flutes, proving that whether it’s The Mall or Mayfair, this pair knows exactly how to play the field.

Na Na Na Ra

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Daler Mehndi is caught dead-centre in a storm raging across our feeds and IRL. It kicked off when a minister called him out on stage mid-gig during a Navratri event recently, sparking an avalanche of opinions.
Daler Mehndi
Everyone from Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav to Palash Sen and Kapil Sharma rushed in to play defence. Mika Singh, naturally, came out guns blazing: insisting his brother doesn’t drink, is recovering from surgery, and is a true professional who honours his commitments no matter the toll.
Now, while we can’t speak to the cause, Daler was visibly off his game — if the viral clips are anything to go by. Either way, publicly humiliating a veteran performer is uncalled for, no matter the provocation. That the industry is rallying around its own is entirely understandable. But cutting through the collective back-patting is singer Sona Mohapatra, who raises the sharpest question in the room: What does an artist actually owe the audience?
Sona Mohapatra
It’s a point to ponder. We obsess over the insult to the star while overlooking the people who perhaps bought tickets, braved the crush, and paid hefty sums to watch an icon deliver. Pushing through when your body is broken might feel noble in the green room, but under the spotlight, it shortchanges the house. To me, the truth sits squarely between Mika’s fierce loyalty and Sona’s reality check: the public shaming is out of line, but taking the fee means owning the delivery.

During the first round, prominent voices including Prashant Bhushan and Abhijeet Dipke rallied in his corner.
